With reference to social workers at schools in the province:

 

(1)     What is the (a) total number of social workers who have been recruited by her Department and who are currently employed (i) in each school district and (ii) at each school and (b) ratio of social workers to learners (i) in each school district and (ii) at each school;

 

(2)     what (a) is the total number of social workers who are employed by the Province (i) on a permanent basis, (ii) on a fixed-term and/or (iii) on a temporary contract, (b) is the total number of social worker vacancies in the province and (c) are the reasons for these positions still being vacant;

 

(3)     what is the current case load of each social worker employed by the Province?

  1. Metro Central 10 social workers + 1 Social Work supervisor = 11

Metro North 10 social workers + 1 SW supervisor = 11

Metro South 9 social workers + 1 SW Supervisor = 10

Metro East 9 social workers + 1 SW Supervisor = 10

Cape Winelands 10 social workers + 1 SW Supervisor = 11

Eden & Central Karoo 8 social workers + 1 SW Supervisor = 9

West Coast 5 social workers + 1 SW Supervisor = 6

Overberg 3 social workers + 1 SW Supervisor = 4

Provincial Office 1 Social Work Manager

  1. Social workers are employed at the district office level, not at individual schools. The social workers work in a ratio of 1: 20-25 schools
