With regard to the acoustic technology for violence detection and reduction (ShotSpotter) currently being used on the Cape Flats:
- When was this technology first implemented, (b) how many people have been arrested as a direct result of this technology, (c) how many people have been convicted as a result of this technology and (d) what has been the total cost of this technology since its inception?
Answer Body:
The contract in question is between the City of Cape Town and ShotSpotter. The Department of Community Safety has an oversight function over municipal police services (Metro Police) of the City of Cape Town and recommends that further information is requested from the City in this regard.
