Question Number:
2
Question Body:
  1. What is the ratio of libraries to schools in the province, (b) what is the ratio of libraries to schools in each quintile and (c) how many schools are without libraries?

Answer Body:

(a)    The WCED has 1447 Public Ordinary School of which 962 have libraries. Ratio of 1: 1,5

(b)    NQF 1 =   1: 2,5

NQF 2 =   1: 1,5

NQF 3 =   1: 1,3

NQF 4 =   1: 1,4

NQF 5 =   1: 1,2

(c)     485 of 1447 indicated on CEMIS that they do not have a library. Of these, at least 11 have, fairly recently, built library facilities. A further 22 are temporary mobile schools, which do not have libraries, but will receive libraries when replacement brick and mortar structures are built in future years. Of the 485 schools, 189 schools are classified as small schools with enrolment of less than 320 learners. All of these schools have access to either community library services or can make use of library services from Edulis. Many of our schools also have “library corners” in classrooms where learners can obtain books relevant to their grade.
