  1. What are the full-time programmes that the Elsenburg Training Institute offer from January 2020;
  1. whether Elsenburg obtained the required approval or accreditation from outside bodies to offer these programmes; if not, (a) what are the details of the applications to offer these programmes and (b) what matters are still outstanding; if so, when was the approval granted;

 

  1. (a) for how long will students who did not finish their studies in the minimum time be supported in those programmes that are to be phased out and (b) what level of support will be offered to them?

 

Answer Body: 

(1) The Elsenburg Agricultural Training Institute currently offers the following full-time programmes:

  • The B.Agric Degree in Agriculture
  • A 3-year Diploma in Agriculture
  • A Certificate in Horse Mastership
  • A National Certificate in Plant- and Animal Production

 

  1. (a) All programmes on offer have been registered and is accredited with the relevant accreditation authorities. 
  1. Approval for the above-mentioned qualifications were granted as follows:

B.Agric Degree in Agriculture - Accredited through the University of Stellenbosch

  • 3-year Diploma in Agriculture - 16 October 2019 (accredited by the Council for Higher Education (CHE) and registered with the South African Qualifications Authority(SAQA))
  • Certificate in Horse Mastership – Accredited through the Equestrian Qualifications Authority of South Africa.
  • National Certificate in Plant- and Animal Production – 30 November 2018 (AgriSeta)

 

  1. (a) Students will have until the end of the 2020 academic year to complete the phased out Higher Certificate and one- year Diploma. This is only applicable to students that were registered prior to the 2020 academic year. 
  1. The affected students will be mentored and guided to ensure that they achieve their qualification in the stipulated time. Students who are assessed and deemed to require additional support will be enrolled in the compulsory tutorial programme on offer at the Institute. In addition, blended learning and alternative assessment tools will be utilised to further support these students where necessary.
