  1. Whether her Department has plans to build new schools in the current year; if so, what are the relevant details;
  1. (a) how many schools are being restored or will be undergoing major maintenance or repair work during this year and (b) what are the names of the schools?

 

Answer Body: 

(a)    It is unclear whether the question refers to the financial year, or the calendar year. 

 

If referring to the 2019/20 financial year ending 31 March 2020, the following new and replacement schools are being delivered:

 

  1. Avondale Primary School (Replacement School) was completed in completed in Quarter 2 of 2019/20.

 

  1. Delft High School (New School) was completed in Quarter 1 of 2019/20.

 

  1. Philippi Secondary School (Replacement School) was completed in Quarter 3 of 2019/20.

 

  1. Qhayiya Secondary School (Replacement School) was completed in Quarter 1 of 2019/20.

 

  1. Silikamva High School (New School) was completed in Quarter 1 of 2019/20.

 

If referring to the 2020 calendar year:

 

  1. Blackheath Primary School (Replacement School) is anticipated to achieve contractual Completion – of the 2nd phase of construction works comprised of external works including demolition & provision of a new sports field - in Quarter 4 of the current 2019/20 financial year.  The 1st phase of construction works achieved contractual Completion in Quarter 3 of the current 2019/20 financial year.

 

  1. Delft-North Primary School (New School) is anticipated to achieve contractual Completion in Quarter 1 of the next 2020/21 financial year.

 

  1. Disa Road Primary School (New School) is anticipated to achieve contractual Completion in Quarter 4 of the current 2019/20 financial year.

 

  1. Stofland Primary School (New School) is anticipated to achieve contractual Completion in Quarter 1 of the next 2020/21 financial year.

 

  1. Diaz Primary School (Replacement School) is anticipated to achieve contractual Completion – of the 2nd phase of construction works comprised of external works including demolition & provision of a new sports field - in Quarter 1 of the next 2020/21 financial year.  The 1st phase of construction works achieved contractual Completion in Quarter 3 of the current 2019/20 financial year.

 

  1. Umyezo Wama Apile Primary School (Replacement School) is anticipated to achieve contractual Completion (1st phase of construction) in Quarter 3 of the next 2020/21 financial year.

 

  1. Harmony Primary School (Replacement School) is anticipated to achieve contractual Completion in Quarter 1 (1st phase of construction) of the next 2020/21 financial year.  The 2nd phase is anticipated to achieve contractual Completion in Quarter 3 of the next 2020/21 financial year.

 

  1. Panorama Primary School no 2 (in Vredenburg) is anticipated to achieve contractual Completion in Quarter 2 (1st phase of construction) of the next 2020/21 financial year.  The 2nd phase is anticipated to achieve contractual Completion in Quarter 3 of the next 2020/21 financial year.

 

  1. Turfhall Primary School (Replacement School) is anticipated to achieve contractual Completion in Quarter 2 (1st phase of construction) of the next 2020/21 financial year.  The 2nd phase is anticipated to achieve contractual Completion in Quarter 3 of the next 2020/21 financial year.  The execution of this project is at risk due to Group Five Construction, currently in Business Rescue, not making adequate progress with on-site construction works.  The continued feasibility of completing this project with Group Five is being evaluated at present.

 

  1. Kwa-Faku Primary School (Replacement School) is anticipated to achieve contractual Completion in Quarter 1 (1st phase of construction) of the next 2020/21 financial year.  The 2nd phase is anticipated to achieve contractual Completion in Quarter 3 of the next 2020/21 financial year.

 

  1. Crestway High School (Replacement School) is anticipated to achieve contractual Completion – of the 2nd phase of construction works comprised of external works including demolition & provision of a new sports field - in Quarter 1 of the next 2020/21 financial year.  The 1st phase of construction works achieved contractual Completion in Quarter 3 of the current 2019/20 financial year.

 

  1. PC Petersen Primary School (Replacement School) is anticipated to achieve contractual Completion in Quarter 1 (1st phase of construction) of the next 2020/21 financial year.  The 2nd phase is anticipated to achieve contractual Completion in Quarter 3 of the next 2020/21 financial year.

 

  1. Willows Primary School (Replacement School) is anticipated to achieve contractual Completion in Quarter 1 (1st phase of construction) of the 2020/21 financial year.  The 2nd phase is anticipated to achieve contractual Completion in Quarter 2 of the 2020/21 financial year.  The execution of this project is at risk due to Group Five Construction, currently in Business Rescue, not making adequate progress with on-site construction works.  The continued feasibility of completing this project with Group Five is being evaluated at present.
