How many (a) illegal and (b) legal firearms were surrendered or voluntarily handed over to the SAPS in the Western Cape during the (i) last amnesty period that ended on 31 May 2020 and (ii) amnesty period in the 2018/19 financial year?
Answer Body:
The South African Police Service informed me as follows:
(a) (i) 22 illegal firearms were surrendered.
(a) (ii) There was no amnesty period during the 2018/19 financial year.
(b) (i) 14 545 legal firearms were surrendered.
(b) (ii) There was no amnesty period during the 2018/19 financial year.
