Question Body:

With regard to rising dam levels and the directive from the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) to local authorities supplied with water from the Western Cape Water Supply System (WCWSS) to lift water restrictions:

What engagements has he had with municipalities and the City of Cape Town, in particular, to review and lower tariffs and to lift restrictions?

Answer Body:

I am extremely pleased to see that the state of our dams has significantly improved over the past winter season, after years of drought at an irregular level. This time taught all South Africans the value of saving water, and I urge residents to continue to do so at all times, as it is our most precious resource.

I meet with the Mayor of Cape Town on a weekly basis and in those meetings the matter of water pricing and tariffs has been raised.

The City of Cape Town has recently announced that Level 1 water restrictions and tariffs has been lifted to the lowest restriction level and lowest tariff level namely the no restriction, water-wise tariff.

The Minister of Local Government, Environmental Affairs & Development Planning, Anton Bredell, has been engaging with water users, including municipalities, on water matters consistently through media reports, highlighting the state of water supply dams as well as the need to value water and use it responsibly.

As water tariff issues rest directly with the national government and municipalities, should more information be sought, kindly engage directly with those spheres on this matter.
