(2) whether her Department will consider engaging the former model C schools to accept some of these learners; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?

Answer Body:

            (1)       (a)       293 - Grade 1 learners

302 - Grade 8 learners

542 - other Grade learners

Total: 1 137

(b)       Plans to resolve unplaced learners:

  • Districts are contacting and following up with parents to confirm if they still need places
  • Many of these cases are late applications or relocations
  • In some of these cases parents remain uncontactable and will be removed from the list of unplaced learners
  • Unfortunately, the placement of any further mobile units is difficult due to budget constraints.

(2)       Circuit Managers have already engaged ex-model C schools to take unplaced learners.

The Head of Education has also engaged with all schools via letters to take in unplaced learners, as the Honourable member has been repeatedly advised.
