With regard to the increasing number of cases of gender-based violence in the province and the growing list of victims who need support:

 

  1. (a) What is the number of funded social-worker posts in her Department and (b) what is the number of social workers who are working in government-funded NPOs that assist victims of violence;
Answer Body: 

30 Social Workers dealing with Gender Based Violence.

 

  1. 712 for Child Protection

 

For the 2019/2020 financial year the Victim Empowerment Programme funded 57 Social Work posts and 37 Social Auxiliary Work posts in NPO’s assisting adult victims of crime and violence.

            

  1. whether any provision in the new financial year will be made to increase the funding for organisation that work with woman and children and for more social-worker posts; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details;

 

Response:

Designated Child Protection Organisations will receive 4% increase in salaries. Additional posts will be considered as requested by NGO’s.

 

For the 2020/2021 financial year the Victim Empowerment Programme transfer budget for posts will increase by 4%. The Programme is also budgeting to increase shelter services in rural areas, funding of 5 x social work supervisors, 60 social work posts and 50 social auxiliary work posts.

 

  1. (a) what is the number of victims who are referred to Childline Western Cape every month, (b) how much money does her Department give to this organisation and (c) how many social workers are employed by this organisation?
