On 26 March 2019 Minister Madikizela confirmed to the Western Cape parliament that 8,4 hectare of land was being released in the Bo-Kaap, Oranjezicht, Tamboerskloof and in the CBD of Cape Town for “extraordinary high-density” housing for 10 000 beneficiaries:
Whether he can (a) provide an update on the progress of these housing projects and (b) indicate whether these properties have now been released for human settlement; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?
(a) On 26 March 2019 I was speaking in my capacity as Minister of Human Settlements. Any update on the housing projects referred to in this question will have to be obtained from the present Minister for that Portfolio as I cannot speak on his behalf.
(b) Amongst others, the following properties previously in the custodianship of the DTPW have been released for human settlement purposes:
Erven 424, Portion of Remainder of 431, 440, 441, 442, 443, 444, 445, 446, 447, 448 and Portion of 2733 Oranjezicht, which form part of the Mandarin Court Precint
