With reference to his reply to question 7 of 20 March 2020:

  1. (a) What is the outcome of his investigation into this matter and (b) what steps, if any, did the Minister take following the outcome;
  1. how is it possible that the reappointment was done without consulting the Minister;
  1. whether the reappointment and salary increase have contributed in any way to the resignation of the chairperson; if so, what are the relevant details;
  1. whether the salary has been revised; if so, how?

 

Answer Body: 

(1)(a) The details of the outcome of the reviews have been provided to the Standing Committee on Finance, Economic Opportunities and Tourism and (b) the findings have concluded that there were no further steps for the Minister to take in this regard.

(2) Adv. Farlam SC, in his legal review of the matter, has concluded that the Wesgro Act did not require the Minister to be consulted and that the Wesgro Board had sole discretion in this regard.

(3) Yes, the previous chairperson in his letter of resignation indicated unhappiness with my enquiry into the matter as his reason for resignation.

(4) Yes, I am informed by the Wesgro Board that the salary has remained the same as the new contract, but the bonus component has reverted back to that of the original contract.
