What are the details of collaborative efforts with the local municipality for the Klapmuts area regarding TB defaulter patients (a) in informal settlements and (b) travelling often out of the province?
The Department’s local health team, including Medical students, started with an ongoing intervention as from May 2021 where all newly diagnosed TB clients sign a commitment to remain adherent on their treatment for the duration thereof. The focus is on counselling clients to understand the TB disease and what the consequences are of not completing the treatment. Klapmuts has no problem of patients transferring out of the area and the community homebased carers do tracing of all clients that default on treatment. There is a dedicated Professional Nurse for TB at Klapmuts clinic.
