With reference to the current status of the KTC Housing Development Project:

(a) What are the details of the housing allocations in the KTC Housing Development Project, (b) how many Breaking New Ground (BNG) houses have been constructed, (c) how many houses are still to be constructed, (d) what is the status of Phase 3 of the KTC Housing Development Project, (e) when will the development be completed, (f) what are the plans for the KTC informal settlement and its future development and (g) when will they be implemented and completed?

Answer Body: 

(a) There are 235 units of which 135 units have been constructed with water and electricity connection, 12 units were recently completed and the water and electricity connection is being resolved, 1 unit is under construction.

(b)148  BNG houses have been constructed.

(c) 87 houses are still to be constructed.

(d) The project has been delayed by informal structures that are obstructing the development. The City of Cape Town is identifying land for relocations to occur, so that those currently obstructing the development, can be moved.

(e) The project completion depends on the identification of decanting site.

(f) The KTC informal settlement upgrade depends on the availability of developable land.

(g) The project completion depends on the identification of decanting site.

It is important to point out that we remain committed to assisting our residents. We will continue to work with the various partners to ensure unnecessary delays are removed from the process.
