Transport and Public Works:
With respect to the ongoing safety and security concerns about the rail infrastructure in the Western Cape and following Prasa’s briefing to the Standing Committee on 22 June:
(a) How many incidents of vandalism and/or theft have been recorded for the period 1 January to 30 June 2021 at all train stations in the province, (b) what is the cumulative value of this for the period in question, (c) what corrective actions have been taken or are in progress to combat such incidents and (d) what is the current number of security personnel deployed at each train station in the province?
Department officials have requested the information from Metrorail and they have indicated that there are no new developments to report that would differ from what was shared with the committee previously.
