With reference to the article ‘Cops are getting away with misconduct’ (Cape Argus, front page, 14 September 2021) and the 2,057 officers in the Western Cape charged with violent misconduct since 2012:

(a)    How many cases of sexual assault were committed by these officers, (b) how many of these officers faced disciplinary action, (c) what disciplinary action was taken against them and (d) what measures has the national Ministry of Police and SAPS put in place to prevent sexual assault cases at the hands of police officers?

         (d)  Workshops regarding Gender-based Violence are conducted at all stations and units. Employees are encouraged to seek emotional assistance from Employee Health and Wellness should they find themselves in need. Employees are also encouraged to be vigilant and alert about the mental wellbeing of their colleagues.

Furthermore, internal structures like Men for Change and the Women’s Network provides a platform for further awareness and reporting of such cases.

Consequence Management serves as a deterrent for members to not be involved in any misconduct.
