Community Safety
With regard to police stations in the Mitchells Plain area:
(1) Whether the SAPS supplies sanitary pads to female visitors, victims and those arrested who might need them; if so, (a) how many does the SAPS keep in stock and (b) how are these sanitary pads distributed;
(2) whether support is given to women or men who are victims of sexual violence; if not, why not; if so, what is the process for receiving such support?
The South African Police Services informed me as follows:
(1) Yes
(a) 60 – 100 packs.
(b) As per need.
(2) Yes.
Trauma counsellors from the stations will support and interview victims. In cases where sexual violence occurred Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit is contacted to further assist victims.
