With regards to the Masiphathisane housing development project at the Oscar Mpetha Square:
(a) What is the total number of housing units that will be developed and;
(b) which areas of Nyanga and surrounds will benefit from the project?
Answer Body:
(a) The project was approved for 896 beneficiaries. To date, 646 units have been completed. The Department is in the process of appointing contractors to complete the remaining 250 units across the various phases of the project, and this includes the repairs to the 58 units that were vandalised.
(b) The project will benefit communities from Mkhonto Square, Mpetha Square and Freedom Square informal settlements, as well as backyaders from Zwelitsha, Mau Mau and Old location.
