With reference to the Council of the Cederberg Local Municipality’s decision to write off all of the uncollected debts of the compassionate households (“deernishuishoudings”) from the previous financial year:
- Whether this has been bought to his attention; if so, (a) what is the source of the funding and (b) was the funding budgeted for?
Answer Body:
- The following has been brought to my attention:
a) The write-offs are funded by the income of the various services that make up the balances of the indigent households, which may include the following:
- Water income
- Electricity income
- Sewage income
- Garbage Disposal Income
- Property tax
b) Adequate funding has been budgeted for the proposed write-offs.
