With reference to the Western Cape Tourism Product Development Fund:
- How many (i) businesses applied for and (ii) received funding from the Tourism Product Development Fund, (b) what was the nature of the funding provided to the various businesses and (c) what examples can be shared of tourism innovation that was developed as a result of the funding?
Answer Body:
- A total of 217 project proposals were received, after the initial project evaluation phase 60 submissions met the minimum criteria as set out in the Terms of Reference. Of these 60 applicants, 11 projects received funding for phase one concerning the total budget available.
- The Buffelsdrift Lodge was one of the successful projects, the funding has allowed them to develop a Cheetah tracking experience on foot with qualified rangers to ensure a safe distance from the free-roaming wild Cheetahs. Further experiences will be launched in coming months and these details will be communicated publicly in due course.
