What progress has been made with the preparations for the Netball World Cup?

Answer Body: 

(1) hat progress has been made with the preparations for the Netball World Cup?

Response:

  • The Netball World Cup 2023 Board has been constituted with a representative from the Western Cape Government.
  • Procurement and Human Resource policies have been adopted.
  • The R30 million allocated from National Department of Sport Arts and Culture has been transferred to Netball South Africa during March 2021.
  • In the 2019/20 Financial year the department handed over 4 netball facilities in the below list Municipalities.
  • Garden Route           George                      2 Courts
  • West Coast                Malmesbury              2 Courts
  • Garden Route           Mossel Bay                 2 Courts 
  • Cape Town                Mitchells Plain            2 Courts
  • We have transferred funding to 7 Municipalities for 2020/2021 financial year for the upgrade or construction of netball courts as part of the world cup legacy namely: Laingsburg Municipality, Cape Agulhas Municipality, Knysna Municipality, Hessequa Municipality, Swellendam Municipality, Langeberg Municipality and Saldanha Bay Municipality.
  • Netball Equipment was purchased for an amount of R290 000.00 and distributed to the netball federations in the Western Cape.
  • The Netball Rule book was translated to Isi Xhosa and there has been some distribution and the balance will be distributed to the libraries and other entities to ensure the wide distribution of the book.
  • The Provincial Committee has been established and are meeting on a regular basis.
  • The funding for this financial year has been allocated for the municipalities and will be transferred to them during July and August 2021.
  • PCD training for netball coaches took place during the 2020/2021 financial year.
  • An office has been identified in the Central Business District for the office of the Netball World Cup to use during the planning of the World Cup.
  • There is an upcoming workshop where the Board members will brief the MEC, Schools and Municipalities on 24-26 July 2021.

(2) whether there are any delays in the allocation of these rental units; if so, what are the relevant details?

Response:

The department is assisting with the identifying of suitable office space in and around the Cape Town area, there are no delays as far as we know as they are functioning on a virtual platform as well as from the Netball RSA offices in Gauteng.
