With reference to shelters serving victims of gender-based violence (GBV) in 2020/21:
(a) How many of such shelters are currently operational in the province, (b) how many were operational by the end of the 2020/21 financial year, (c) what are the (i) locations and (ii) regions of the shelters, (d) how many residents did these shelters serve (i) in the 2020/21 financial year and (ii) from the start of the current financial year to date?
With reference to shelters serving victims of gender-based violence (GBV) in 2020/21:
(a) How many of such shelters are currently operational in the province,
Response: 26 Shelters are currently funded by the Department for the 2021/2022 financial year.
(b) how many were operational by the end of the 2020/21 financial year,
Response: 19 shelters were operational, and 1 shelter as provided by the Department of Transport and Public Works and Infrastructure was launched in March 2021. In total 20 shelters were operational at the end of the 2020/2021 financial year.
(c) what are the (i) locations and (ii) regions of the shelters,
Response: Due to confidentiality purposes, locations are not shared, however the Regions and municipalities in which the shelters are located are as follows:

Response: 1963 women and children accessed shelter services in the 2020/21 financial year.
and (ii) from the start of the current financial year to date?
Response: From 1 April 2021 to 30 September 2021, 997 women and children accessed shelter services.
