On 17 February 2021 the Premier announced R4,7 million was used by the Department of Arts and Culture to help 753 applicants through this funding.

 

  1. (a) How many applications (i) for funding from the arts and culture sector were received, (ii) were approved, (iii) were declined and (b) what was the criteria used to approve or decline an applicant;

 

  1. whether applicants receive the same amount of funding; if so, (a) what was the amount received by each, (b) what are the names of applicants who received funding, and (c) what are their arts or cultural status or classification;

QUESTION:  On 17 February 2021 the Premier announced R4,7 million was used by the Department of Arts and Culture to help 753 applicants through this funding.

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport received a total of 975 applications from the arts and culture sector for social relieve support.

  1. How many were approved

Reply

The Department approved 599 applications.

  1. How many were declined

Reply

The Department declined 376 applications.

See Annexure 1 for criteria for funding.

Applicants were declined if they did not meet the criteria and if they had received funding from Relief Fund administered by the National Department of Sport, Arts and Culture. A significant percentage were declined for the latter.
