Question Body:

With reference to the cost of rolling out COVID-19 vaccines in the province:

What is the total amount spent to date on the vaccine roll-out planning and strategy in terms of (a) equipment, (b) facilities, (c) staff and (d) training?

Answer Body:

We are in phase 1 (a) and the cost to date for vaccines has been R0 to as the J&J vaccines are donated by Janssens Pharmaceuticals.

  1. Equipment: IT equipment has been shifted to the vaccine sites at the hospitals and loan equipment from within the department. 400 x 2D Scanners were provided by the National Department of Health at no cost to the WCGH.
  2. Facilities: using existing hospitals & a Substructure Office. The only additional infrastructure is the unit that was placed by CIPLA at Khayelitsha/Eastern Substructure Offices and at no cost to the Department.
  3. Staff: we are using existing staff as vaccinators, administrators, queue marshalls – so the actual cost of their salaries. No additional staff used to this point. No overtime has been paid.

Training: development of the training package, online platform hosting, maintenance of the websites and any additional video development to update existing content was R980 000 (once-off only). No additional cost for weekly updates. Any number of people can be trained.
