Community Safety
With reference to the reply to question 15 of 17 September 2021:
(1) Regarding the response to 15(b–c), the reply indicates in part (b) that 59 police officers had disciplinary proceedings instituted against them; however, a breakdown of these proceedings in part (c) indicates that four officers had “no steps taken” against them, (a) what is the reason for this discrepancy and (b) why did these four officers not face disciplinary action;
(2) regarding the response to 15(d), (a) how many workshops related to gender-based violence (GBV) have taken place in 2021 to date and (b) at which (i) stations and (ii) units did the workshops take place;
(3) what measures are involved in “consequence management” to deter members from being involved in misconduct?
The reply of the South African Police Service (SAPS):
5. (1) (a) & (b) Complainants withdrew the criminal cases against the members – 2 cases
Member dismissed from the Service on another case – 1 case
No direct or indirect evidence – 1 case

(b) (i) & (ii) Members from the geographic areas of Athlone, Atlantis, Belhar, Bellville, Bishop Lavis, Delft, Elsies River, Grassy Park, Gugulethu, Harare, Khayelitsha, Kleinvlei, Kraaifontein, Kuilsrivier, Lengtegeur, Lingelethu West, Lwandle, Malmesbury, Manenberg, Mfuleni, Milnerton, Mitchells Plain, Nyanga, Paarl East, Riebeek West, Steenberg, Stellenbosch, Strand, Table View attended the workshops.
(3) Consequence management in the form of disciplinary steps serves as a deterrent should a member be found guilty of misconduct.
