With reference to the reply to question 5 of 1 October 2021:

  1. (a) What criteria are used to assess the respective needs of the stations and (b) what are the results of the needs assessments conducted for every station in the province;
  2. with reference to answer (f), regarding stations that have 15 or fewer rape kits available, whether these stations have sufficient rape kits available to meet the needs in their respective areas; if not, why?

The reply of the South African Police Service (SAPS):

8.      (1)   (a)     The number of Schedule 8 offences of the previous financial year is used and buffer stock is catered for as a contingency allowance.

                 (b)     Needs submitted by stations were sufficient.

  (2)   Stations with shortages/ low stock levels are issued from the additional buffer stock.
