Community Safety
(a) How many of the (i) 500 additional law enforcement officers, (ii) 120 peace officers and (iii) safety ambassadors, as planned for the current year, have been deployed to date, (b) in which areas where they deployed and (c) what are the reasons where the deployment has not been concluded?
1. (a) The following deployments were made during the current year:
(i) We have deployed 823 LEAP members (714 LLEOs and 109 commanders) in partnership with the City of Cape Town to date. In addition, we have a further 220 members undergoing training with 217 members that will be found competent and who will be deployed after 17 December 2021. This will bring the total LEAP officers deployed to 1040.
(ii) The Department trained and deployed 122 peace officers in the previous financial year.
(iii) A total number of 1043 Safety Ambassadors were recruited.
(b) The LEAP members are deployed in ten policing precincts of which eight are of the top ten murder stations in the Western Cape, namely Bishop Lavis (including Bonteheuwel), Delft, Gugulethu, Harare, Khayelitsha, Kraaifontein, Mfuleni, Mitchells Plain, Nyanga, and Philippi (including Hanover Park).
The safety ambassadors are deployed province wide. Currently there are 469 deployed in the Cape Town Metro, 109 in the Garden Route District, 232 in the Overberg district, 71 in the Central Karoo District, 50 in the Cape Winelands District and 112 in the West Coast District.
(c) The Department trained and deployed 122 peace officers in the following municipalities:

Breede Valley Municipality- 24
Langeberg Municipality- 20
Witzenberg Municipality- 20
