  1. What is the expected date for the upgrades to the health facilities in (i) Gansbaai, (ii) Laingsburg and (iii) Wynberg (Victoria Hospital) as referred to in the Premier’s State of the Province Address for 2021, (b) what are the details of the infrastructure upgrades for each of these facilities and (c) what are the improved services that will be provided at each facility as a result of the upgrades?

Facility

Gansbaai Clinic: Upgrade and Addition

Sectional Completion ( for phase 1) was achieved on 9 April 2021. Practical Completion for the next phase is anticipated at 25 Feb 2022

Upgrades to existing clinic and extension of existing clinic with new waiting area, support care, pharmacy and records area.  

All services at clinic will be improved by significantly larger clinic. Additional ablutions, new: waiting area, Pre-wait, sub-waits, improved mechanical ventilation & electrical system as well as new parking areas, waiting area, support care, pharmacy and records area.  

Laingsburg Clinic: Upgrade and Additions

Practical Completion achieved  April 2021 and handed over to Facility, Final Completion anticipated 27 Jan 2022

Laingsburg Clinic - Upgrades to existing clinic and extension of existing clinic to link with existing hospital with new waiting area, consulting rooms, pharmacy and records area. 

All services at clinic will be improved by significantly larger clinic. Improved accessibility, parking area, additional ablutions, larger waiting area, upgraded mechanical ventilation & electrical  and general upgrades to existing clinic. The existing to the clinic will provide a direct link with existing hospital, new: Pre-wait, waiting area, consulting rooms, pharmacy and records area. 

Wynberg (Victoria hospital): New Emergency Centre

Work was split into phases to facilitate the decanting of the old Emergency Centre to the new 'Section 1'. Section 1 achieved Practical Completion on the 2nd of February 2021, Section 2 – parking and civil works in front of the hospital and old Emergency Centre, (and the works as a whole, 14th July 2021. The service decanted and commenced service in the new EC on the 26th May 2021

Additional area and renovations added of 2500 square meters, which includes a new emergency centre with dedicated triage and consulting  rooms,  a dedicated 4 bay, state-of-the-art resus unit, with 17 bed main treatment area, increased nebulization area, improved doctors station and dedicated nurses stations and overnight observation ward with dedicated rehydration areas, dedicated staff area for emergency staff included in the unit, new staff parking, new patient/visitors parking, new hospital ring road with dedicated ambulance access and new perimeter security fences around the hospital

 Improved rapid triage, resus and treatment due to improved conditions and additional area over the existing prefab unit, additional capacity for observations, improved staff morale and patient care, improved waiting areas for patients and dedicated waiting area for family, expected improved patient recovery and turnaround due to the improved environment.
