Speaker Mnqasela to distribute school shoes to needy learners at Noordhoek Primary School

Speaker Masizole Mnqasela, as part of a concerted effort to engage communities in creating further awareness ahead of the Official Opening of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament and the Premier’s 2022 State of the Province Address (SOPA) taking place in the Bergrivier Municapility on Tuesday, will embark on his Shoes of Hope programme by distributing school shoes to needy learners in this municipality on Monday, 14 February in collaboration with Youth4Life SA and Samaritan’s Feet SA.

This initiative will see shoes being distributed to the most needy learners at Noordhoek Primary School. The Shoes of Hope initiative is about more than just providing shoes to those who need them most. The aim is to connect with the children and give them hope – this is why those distributing the shoes wash each child’s feet before putting the shoes on them. The Speaker believes, that for any country to succeed it needs to prioritise education of its population, through empowering programmes thereby making education fashionable.

Since the start of the collaboration with Youth4Life SA and Samaritan’s Feet SA, Speaker Mnqasela has already participated in the distribution of thousands of pairs of school shoes to children at crèches and primary schools across the province. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has been tough on the whole of society, but particularly on our poorer communities. The loss of income experienced by many has resulted in such things as school shoes simply not being affordable. Through this project, needy learners are assisted with these basic requirements.
