Thetha Nathi rolled out in Cape Metro

The Speaker of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament (WCPP), Honourable Masizole Mnqasela, will host four sessions of the institution’s public engagement programme, Thetha Nathi, in various areas in the Cape Town Metropolitan Municipality during March 2022, including:

• 17 March: Bellville;

• 18 March: Bloubergstrand

• 22 March: Mitchells Plain; and

• 23 March: Khayelitsha.

Thetha Nathi, meaning “speak to us”, seeks to enhance the work of the WCPP by creating an opportunity for Members of Parliament to interact with stakeholders in their respective constituencies. Our Honourable Speaker officially launched the programme in the Garden Route district in September 2021.

The second leg of Thetha Nathi programme during February 2022, also to coincide with the official opening of the provincial parliament and the Premier’s State of the Province Address which took place in Velddrif on 15 February, focussed on the West Coast District.

“We are well on track to ensure that the programme is systematically rolled out to cover all areas of our beautiful province,” says Speaker Mnqasela.

After introductions by representatives of the relevant local authorities, Speaker Mnqasela will deliver a keynote address during which he will be highlighting the origins of the Thetha Nathi programme, with specific reference to the oversight role of the provincial parliament and the importance of providing a platform for provincial and local leaders to communicate with communities. The programme includes an information and educational component but also provides community stakeholders the opportunity to interact and network with elected public representatives and employees of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament on key issues affecting communities.
