  1. (a) Who has been nominated by Western Cape Agriculture to serve on the Ebenhaeser Trust and (b) what is this individual’s prior exposure to businesses and trusts;
  1. (a)(i) how many budgets have been submitted by the Ebenhaeser Trust to his Department for a due diligence analysis and (ii) what were the full sum of the expenditure contained in those budgets and (b)(i) what were the major expense items contained in those budgets and (ii) what amounts have be transferred by the Ebenhaeser Trust to the Community Property Association?

  1. [a] Mr Hendrik Pretorius Vos has been nominated by the Western Cape Department of                                           Agriculture to serve on the Ebenhaeser Development Trust.

[b]  Mr Vos is a Chartered Accountant and has been registered with the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants [SAICA] since 1997.  He is a Partner/Director with Claasen Stone Registered Auditors in Vredendal and has a wide experience of audits in the public and private sector in the area.  He is also the accountant for a range of farmers and agribusinesses around Vredendal.  This place him in the ideal position to understand the financial and business realities of local farming.

            Budget submitted in 2019: R39 620 028,00

[b][i] In the 2017 budget the main expenditure items were the establishment of 40 ha of vineyards [R6,2 million], purchasing or renting machinery and equipment [R3,3 million] as well as permanent or seasonal labour [R2,9 million].

In the 2019 budget the main items was the establishment of 40 ha of high-density vineyards [R16,1 million], machinery and equipment [R7,8 million] and operational expenditure on the vineyards [R4,1 million].

          [ii]  2018/19 financial year:

R542 000 – in the form of vouchers distributed to the community members of the Community Property Association [CPA].

R77 050 – stipends payed to board members of the CPA for official duties.

              2019/20 financial year:

Expenditure data is still in the process of finalisation before being submitted to the accountants.
