- How many applications for the construction of slipways have been received or how many have already been identified by Eden District Municipality on behalf of Hessequa Municipality and
- when will the project be completed?
- To date no applications have been received by the Department for the construction of slipways in the Hessequa Municipal area in terms of the National Environmental Management Act: Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations, 2014. This has been confirmed by the Hessequa municipality (see Annexure A).
However, sites have been identified by the Hessequa Municipality as sites to be listed by MEC Bredell as public launch sites in terms of the Integrated Coastal Management Act: Management of Public Launch Sites in the Coastal Zone Regulations, 2014 (GN No. R496 of 27 June 2014) (“Public Launch Site Regulations”). These sites include; Die Kraaltjie, Breede (NSRI) Slipway, Duivenhoks Site A Upriver, Goukou main slipway, Gourits Estuary Slipway and Malgas Eastern Bank. A copy of the draft list of public launch sites that have been advertised by the Department in terms of the Public Launch Site Regulations has been attached (see Annexure B).
- In terms of the Public Launch Site Regulations the MEC must gazette the list of public launch sites by 26 June 2015. This process is on schedule and all public launch sites will be listed by the MEC in accordance with the prescribed timeframes.
