(1) With reference to the 600 South African Police Service Act posts that have been allocated to the Western Cape: (a) how many of these posts have been (i)  advertised and (ii) filled, (b) (i) what type of training will the recruits be receiving and (ii) when will the training be completed and (c) to which stations will the officers be allocated;

(2) whether the new recruits have been vetted for prior criminal convictions; if not, why not?

Answer Body: 

[1](a] (i]       A total of 668 entry level posts were advertised in the Cape Times dated, 2013/11/09 with closing date 2013/11/25.

          (ii]     No posts filled from 668 advertised

    (b]  (i]      Basic Police Development Learning Programme

Selected applicants shall participate in a Basic Police Development Learning Programme (hereafter referred to as the PROGRAMME] for a period of 24 (twenty four] months.

The PROGRAMME shall consist of three phases:

Academy Phase

Ten months training at a designated SAPS Academy;

Field Police Development Phase

Twelve months training at a designated Field Police Development police station;

Integrated Assessment Phase

Two months assessment at a designated SAPS Academy.

       (ii]   The recruitment has just concluded last phase of process on 4th July 2014, being “Grooming Camp” and still working on comments received from public regarding the publication of names in the media which was advertised in the Cape Times and Die Burger. Training will be completed in 2016
