Whether divisional roads 1625 and 1609 bordering the RAMSAR site Wilderness in the Eden District Municipality will be upgraded, if not, why not; if so, (a) to what extent, (b) when, (c) at what cost?
Answer Body:
Divisional road 1609 was identified by our Road Network Management systems in 2006 for upgrading, and was put on the departmental programme. Divisional road 1625 is not yet on the programme for upgrading.
[a] The project is to surface Divisional road 1609 from km 0,4 to km 6,4.
The project is presently in the Environmental Impact Assessment stage.
[b] Presently 2017 is seen as an achievable date.
[c] The estimated cost to upgrade the road is presently R30 million.
