With regard to the recent flare-up in gang violence in Khayelitsha, Manenberg, Mitchells Plain and Lentegeur:

(a)   What is the vacancy rate at each of these police stations, (b) what is the average case rate for detectives at each of these police stations and (c) what preventative measures does SAPS have in place to deal with gang violence flare-ups in these communities?

Answer Body: 

[a]    Khayelitsha     - 20%

       Lentegeur           - 9%

       Manenberg        - 10%

     Mitchells Plain      - 11%

 The vacancies at these prioritised stations were recently reviewed and positively adjusted which influenced the vacancy rate due to the allocation of additional human resources. The vacancies will be filled by the SAPS internal processes.

[b]   Khayelitsha:       - 106 case dockets on hand per average.

       Manenberg:          - 92 case dockets on hand per average.

      Mitchells Plain       - 100 case dockets on hand per average.

      Lentegeur:             - 113 case dockets on hand per average.

   [c]   The Western Cape SAPS has an Anti-Gangsterism Strategy Implementation Plan in place which is executed by the Anti-Gang Unit. Crime Intelligence monitor daily gang activities.

  A Gang Desk has been implemented for the community to report gang activities. A Provincial Extortion Task Team as well as the Provincial Task Team: Operation Restore has been established to be proactive in these communities to curb gang violence and gang activities..
