5. The department has appointed Institutional Management and Governance [IMG] advisors in every circuit who advise principals and school governing bodies on management and governance issues affecting individual schools.
The WCED’s Directorate: Institutional Management and Governance manages, plans, coordinates and evaluates IMG in schools at Head Office level.
These tasks include providing developing IMG policy and providing guidelines and training on effective school leadership and governance.
The WCED provides training for school principals and senior teachers who aspire to become school principals at the department’s Cape Teaching and Leadership Institute [CTLI] in Kuils River.
The WCED provides extensive guidelines for financial management of schools by SGBs on its web site, along with circulars and other policy documents that school managers and SGBs need for reference purposes.
