  1. Whether the 10111 emergency call service in Cape Town or the Western Cape has at any point during the last year to date been non-functional; if so, what are the relevant details;
  1. whether the power load shedding has affected the 10111 service in the province; if so, what are the relevant details;
  1. whether the back-up generator during the load shedding period experienced in 2014 was not functional due to maintenance; if so,
  1. whether this occurred during load shedding and whether this affected the service in any way; if so, what are the relevant details?
Answer Body: 

The South African Police Services informed me as follows:

            (1)  The 10111 Call Centre was not non-functional during the last year.

            (2)   The service was not affected

                   (3)   On Friday, 2014-11-21 between 20:00 to 21:20, the generator did not automatically activate during the power failure due to technical issues. This did not affect any incoming calls as contingency plans ensured that complaints were manually logged.

            (4)   The service was not affected.
