- Whether the clothing bank initiative through which 700 women generated R25 million through entrepreneurship has been brought to his or his Department’s attention; if so, what are the relevant details;
- whether initiatives like these are viable for economic development in the province; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?
Answer Body:
The Department through the Enterprise Development unit met with the Clothing Bank to understand the success thereof.
(1) The programme is viable and mainly targets women within disadvantaged communities in metro based townships. The initiative is currently running at the Philippi Village and is deemed to be viable within metro-based township areas. The Clothing Bank attempted the concept in rural areas with limited success.
