- (a) How many posts are on the approved organogram of Swellendam Municipality, (b) how many posts are filled, (c) when will the vacancies be filled, (d) (i) how many directors have been appointed and (ii) at which level are they remunerated and (e) what was the reason for the suspension of traffic officials in the municipality;
- Whether the disciplinary process has started for the suspended traffic officials; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?
Swellendam Municipality was requested to respond to the above questions and their responses were as follows:
- Number of approved posts on the staff establishment is 347;
- Number of posts filled is 243;
- Vacancies can only be filled as and when funds are made available on the budget;
- (i) Four Directors have been appointed:
(ii) The current directors are all remunerated beyond the upper limits published by Government Notice 225, in Government Gazette 37500 dated 29 March 2014;
- The provincial traffic services had investigated numerous allegations of corruption and fraud at the Swellendam Traffic Department. The outcome of their investigation led to the suspension of the traffic officers.
(2) The internal investigation has been concluded and the disciplinary process will commence in April 2015.
