- Whether incidences of social grant beneficiaries being exploited by loan sharks through the confiscation of their SASSA cards until they receive the next grant have been brought to his attention; if so, what are the relevant details;
- whether his Department have any plans on place to prevent this from occurring; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details;
- whether an investigation has been launched to determine the extent of this action; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details;

Answer Body:
- Yes, we have received such complaints, and we have handed the matter to SASSA for their investigation.
- SASSA is the organisation that has the mandate to investigate abuse of grants or grant fraud. The Provincial Department of Social Development (DSD) can and does play a supportive role in investigations if requested by SASSA to do so. In addition, DSD holds regular meetings with SASSA to forward new cases to them, and follow-up on existing cases.
