Community Safety
- How many schools in Delft have school resource officers;
- whether all the school resource officers are fully trained; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details;
- whether school resource officers are employed permanently; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details;
- (a) who pays the schools resource officers and (b) what cover and benefits do school resource officers have in the event of an accident taking place while they are performing their duties?
4. (1) In terms of the 2017/18 agreement between the City of Cape Town and the Western Cape Government, there are 2 schools in Delft which have been prioritised with the placement of school resource officers, namely, Masibambisane Secondary and Voorbrug Secondary School.
(2) All school resource officers are fully trained by the City of Cape Town Metro Police Training Academy.
(3) All new school resource officers have entered into EPWP contracts for a period of 12 months. The City of Cape Town also deploys additional permanent and more experienced school resource officers within high risk areas.
(4)(a) The City of Cape Town pays the stipends for school resource officers, however, the Department of Community Safety has an agreement with the City of Cape Town whereby the Department contributes financially for the training as well as stipend of the SROs.
(b) The Ministerial determination for EPWP employees requires that all beneficiaries must be registered for compensation for occupational injuries (COIDA). All injuries on duty will therefore be dealt with in line with this legislation and their employment contracts.
