- How many complaints did the Provincial Police Ombudsman receive in (i) 2017/18 and (ii) 2018/19 to date, (b) how many complaints were resolved in the aforementioned financial years, (c) how many complaints remained unresolved in the aforementioned financial years and (d) how many recommendations have been made in these financial years?
- (a) (i) During the 2017/2018 financial year the WCPO received a total of 513 complaints.
(ii) During the 2018/2019 financial year, and as at 18 July 2018, the WCPO received a total of 130 complaints.
- (i) During the 2017/2018 financial year, the office finalized 392 complaints. These complaints were received in the following financial years: 2014/2015, 2015/2016, 2016/2017, and 2017/2018.
(ii) During the 2018/2019 financial year, the office finalized a total of 68 complaints. These complaints were received during the following financial years: 2014/2015, 2015/2016, 2016/2017, 2017/2018 and 2018/2019.
(c) (i) Complaints which remained unresolved during financial year 2017/18 amounted to 457 complaints. These complaints were received during the following financial years 2014/2015, 2015/2016, 2016/2017, and 2017/2018.
(ii) Complaints received in 2014/15, 2015/2016, 2016/2017, 2017/2018, and 2018/2019 which remain unresolved at present: 583.
(d) (i) Recommendations made to the SAPS in the 2017/2018 financial year amounts to 52.
(ii) Recommendations made to the SAPS in the 2018/2019 financial year amounts to 6.
