(1) The criteria are set out in our funding policy guidelines and the criteria is reflected below:
- To be eligible for funding clients must:

- Be a unified democratically elected body with registered participants;
- Demonstrate a need for development and have viable development and transformation programmes;
- Demonstrate the ability to manage the funds effectively;
- Publicly recognise the departments support for particular projects;
- Enter into the necessary contractual arrangements with the Department;
- Use the financial support exclusively for the advancement of sport and recreation;
- Support free association and participation;
- Hold annual, biennial or quadrennial general meetings;
- Hold regular executive committee meetings;
- Be a non-profit body;
The DCAS transfers funding to federations who are affliliated and in good standing with their respective Sport Councils and Sport Confederations.
Following an application and consultative process with the federation and Western Cape Provincial Sport Confederation.
The Western Cape Karate Federation made application for Ad-hoc funding during the 2017/18 financial year for their athletes traveling to International events.
