Question Body:

Whether his Department is aware of each department’s plans to mitigate the risk associated with climate change; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?

Answer Body:

Within the PSG4 transversal management system, my Department is responsible for the coordination of the Climate Change - Work Group (WCG Departments) and – Forum (external stakeholders). As such there is representation from most WCG Departments at the quarterly hosted sessions.

Climate change is in the process of being registered as an Enterprise Risk for Western Cape Government, and as such all departments and public entities will be required to determine the risks to their core business and service delivery, and then put in place risk management activities and plans.

The Cabinet Bosberaad of June 2017, determined that all Departments to include Climate Change and water security responses into Departments APPs - commencing in the 18/9 APP considerations for Part A. Following this there was engagement at a consultation session on the draft framework for short and medium term planning.  For the 18/9 round of APP submissions, the Directorate Climate Change and DotP Policy and Strategy Chief Directorate has evaluated draft APP inputs and provided feedback to Departments. These evaluations will continue for future APPs in order to assist WCG to deepen and broaden their Climate Change Response.
