Answer Body:

5.       The City of Cape Town informed me as follows:

            (a)       There are three (3) cameras installed within Site C

(b)(i)      None

(ii)      Of the three (3) cameras in Site C, there are currently no operational cameras.

          (c)         The CCTV camera network relies on the availability and the utilization of external resources to operationalize the cameras. The Non-operational statuses of these cameras are stemming from continuous vandalism to the infrastructures supplying resources to the cameras. The damages to these infrastructures are to such an extent that it is deemed beyond economical repair. (economically unsustainable)

This damages would range from uprooting of power cables, damages to fiber network, vandalism to CCTV infrastructure equipment and damages to Eskom electrical transformer.

(e)         The Eskom transformer was removed by them, as all infrastructure linked to this unit was vandalized or stolen and affects the three cameras power supply in the area.

These damages would range from uprooting of power cables, damages to fiber network, vandalism to CCTV infrastructure equipment and damages to Eskom electrical transformer

The CCTV camera network relies on the availability and the utilization of external resources to operationalize the cameras. The Non-operational statuses of these cameras are stemming from continuous vandalism to the infrastructures supplying resources to the cameras.
