- How many South African Police Service (SAPS) officers did not complete their firearm competency tests in (a) 2015/16, (b) 2016/17 and (c) 2017/18;
- whether SAPS officers’ firearms are removed if they do not pass the competency tests; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details;
- whether any remedial action has been taken to ensure that tests are passed; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?

1. The South African Police Service informed me as follows:
(1)(a) 3979
(b) 3101
(c) 4556
(2) Yes, SAPS members who are not yet competent (NYC) in the Use of Firearm and Legal Principles assessments were instructed to hand in their firearms.
(3) Yes, a “Pistol Clinic” is presented for these members.
