An intensive process of trying to identify the source of the outbreak was undertaken by the National Departments of Health (DoH), Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) and Trade and Industry (DTI), municipalities and the NICD. Epidemiological investigations included interviewing patients. The investigation and recalling of affected food items is managed by the National Department of Health along with the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) and the National Food Control. The NICD is responsible for performing epidemiological and laboratory investigations of infectious diseases of public health importance.
