Whether any steps have been taken to replace the demolished G F Jooste Hospital in Manenberg; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?
-
- Yes, steps have indeed been taken to replace the demolished GF Jooste Hospital with a new facility. This was done in conjunction with the Manenberg community.
- Initially the replacement facility was going to be a 350-bed hospital but after numerous community consultations which took a critical look at the intrinsic societal needs, it has been decided by the Department of Health to build a 640-bed regional hospital instead.
- The high-level planning is currently underway whereby the Strategic Brief for the hospital has been submitted by the Department of Health to the National Department of Health (NDoH) as part of the Peer Review process – approval pending.
- According to the Department of Health the hospital will be named the Klipfontein Regional Hospital.
