[a] How many disciplinary proceedings have been instituted against SAPS officers as a result of cases monitored by his Department’s Watching Briefs Programme and [b] what were the outcomes of these disciplinary proceedings in [i] 2014/15 and [ii] 2015/16 to date?

Answer Body: 

[a] During the last quarter of 2013 19 disciplinary actions were instituted according to a report by the Provincial Commissioner.

     For the period 1 January to 31 March 2014 8 disciplinary actions were instituted according to a report by the Provincial Commissioner.

     For the period 1 April to 30 June 2014 the Provincial Commissioner reported that “the concerns raised in your report regarded as non- compliance had been addressed in terms of the          SAPS Disciplinary Regulations”.  No further details were given.

    For the period 1 July to 30 September 2014 the Provincial Commissioner reported that “the concerns raised in your report regarded as non- compliance had been addressed in terms of the SAPS Disciplinary Regulations”.  No further details were given.

   For the period 1 October to 31 December 2014 the Provincial Commissioner reported that “The necessary disciplinary steps were taken where applicable”.

            For the period 1 January to 31 March 2014 the Provincial Commissioner reported that “The necessary disciplinary steps were taken where applicable”.

            For the period 1 April to 30 June 2014 the Provincial Commissioner reported that “the concerns raised in your report regarded as non- compliance had been addressed in terms of the SAPS Disciplinary Regulations”.  No further details were given.

            The report for the period 1 July to 30 September 2015 is still outstanding.

[b]         No outcome of any disciplinary steps is known.
