With regard to the onset of winter and the associated colder weather in the province:
Whether there are measures in place to provide assistance to homeless people in the province; if so, (a) what are the relevant details and (b) how much will be spent on these measures?
[a] Western Cape Department of Social Development [WC DSD] subsidizes a number of 2 308 bed spaces at 37 Night Shelters for homeless adults, across the Province.
[b] WC DSD has allocated R28 988 595.00 for the financial year to homelessness.
Fifteen WC DSD subsidized Night Shelters have the following measures in place to assist the homeless during winter, ending September 2022. The assistance consists of hand-out meals, non-perishable food/food parcels, toiletries, sheets, pillows, blankets, mattresses, sleeping bags, tents, bunk beds, wooden pallets, designated fire pits, hygiene packs and survival kits which includes (winter jackets, gloves, hoodies, scarves, winter socks and winter pantyhose for men and women].
