[1] What is the (a) situation regarding the provision of housing in the Greenhaven area of Great Brak River and (b) plan to repair the houses there and to protect them against the uncontrolled flow of stormwater and the serious structural and health problems that are created;
[2] whether the disadvantaged residents will be relocated; if so, what are the relevant details?
1. (a) In terms of Mossel Bay Municipality’s pipeline, a housing project in Greenhaven is earmarked for implementation in the 2019/2020 financial year.
(b) The Municipality has confirmed that these houses are not in a state of disrepair.
The Municipality has installed cut off sub soil drains on all sites affected and all seepage water is being channelled through these drains to the existing storm water channel. The Army Searle Canal has also been upgraded. This will contribute to the overall storm water control of the area.
2. Since the interventions outlined in (1) (b), there has been no complaints from the residents. Relocation is therefore not needed.
The Municipality has submitted a funding application to my department in order to conduct further soil investigations with the aim of a land rehab project, if needed.
